As we’ve published here before, jiu jitsu international is now official – but this is the video shot by Brazilian reporters that we edited to show the actual historic moments.
On the video you’ll see JJI’s executive director “Papa” John Gorman, along with the President of the World Black Belt Council Sylvio Behring, and on the table, 3 of the 4 grandmaster that make up JJI’s governing body, the Red Belt Council:
Grandmaster Alvaro Barreto, Grandmaster Joao Alvaro Barreto, and Grandmaster Flavio Behring.
You can learn more about their life-long dedication to the sport on the jiu jitsu international website.
Help us spread the message by sharing this video with your friends on twitter, facebook, digg, and over email.
And you can support our Olympic goals by becoming a member of USAJJ as a student or school.
Thank you!

BJJ Red Belt Alvaro Barreto Named Professor Emeritus
Posted by USAJJ in jiu jitsu international on November 27, 2009

"Papa" John Gorman presents BJJ Grandmaster Alvaro Barreto the Professor Emeritus title
USA Jiu-Jitsu is the non-profit organization in the United States
working to promote Jiu-Jitsu as an amateur sport in order for it to be recognized by the U.S. and International Olympic Committees.
Realizing Jiu Jitsu in the U.S. wouldn’t exist without its strong ties to Brazil where it has thrived for nearly a century, USA Jiu-Jitsu is honoring many of the recognized grand masters of the art with a special status.
John “PapaJohn” Gorman, commissioner of USA Jiu-Jitsu and Executive Director of the recently formed Jiu-Jitsu International presented Alvaro Barreto with a certificate naming him Professor Emeritus of USA Jiu Jitsu.
The title illustrates Alberto’s lifelong dedication to the art and USA Jiu-Jitsu’s debt to the masters who helped popularize the sport in Brazil and its immigration to the United States.
